Aultman Nurses Present at National Magnet Conference

CANTON, Ohio (Nov.1, 2011) – Two nurses from Aultman Hospital recently returned from the 2011 National Magnet Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, where they gave a podium presentation on Aultman’s community outreach program, Wellness on Wheels.  Linda Brunk, RN and Linda Griggs, MSN, RN presented “Got WOW? How to Develop a Formalized and/or Enhance a Community Outreach Program” at the conference, where over 7,500 nurses were in attendance, including 12 additional nurses from Aultman Hospital. The 2011 American Nurses Credentialing Center National Magnet Conference took place Oct. 4 through Oct. 6. The podium presentation on Aultman’s WOW program was one of only 120 total presentations that were chosen from over 1,300 submitted nationwide.

The Magnet designation award was established by the American Nursing Association and recognizes excellence in nursing service. The name Magnet was developed to demonstrate the ability of these facilities to attract and retain highly qualified nurses, much like a magnet. Today, Magnet designation is known as the “gold standard for quality nursing care” and less than 7% of all hospitals in America are Magnet designated. Aultman Hospital received initial designation in 2006 and remains the only Magnet hospital in Stark County. Not only is this a valid indicator of quality patient care, but Magnet designation also enhances recruitment and retention of highly qualified nurses. Additionally, Magnet facilities show better patient outcomes and increased patient satisfaction.
