Aultman Medical Education Offers Free Summer Learning Opportunities for College-aged Students
April 05, 2012
CANTON, Ohio (April 4, 2012) – The Aultman Medical Education Department is offering a summer program for college-aged students who are interested in health care careers.
The Fifth Annual Summer Symposium will be held June 21 from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and June 22 from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Aultman Education Center. Topics range from the skills health care professionals need to information and technology in health care. The two-day event includes a career health fair during which students will talk with representatives from more than a dozen Aultman departments.
In addition to the symposium, clinical observation and research opportunities will be available June 25-July 27. These experiences are for students interested in becoming physicians, pharmacists, nurses and allied health professionals such as physical/occupational therapists, social workers and respiratory therapists. The two-day symposium and a half-day learning session June 28 are required for observation and/or research participants.
“The symposium gives students the opportunity to learn from members of the health care team ranging from doctors and nurses to hospital administrators,” said Martha W. Magoon, M.D., director of undergraduate medical education at Aultman. “Students who participate in clinical observations will get first-hand looks at health care careers, while research participants will contribute to projects that can have a positive impact at Aultman Hospital.”
