Elsie Johnston can pitch her alarm clock; she doesn't have to be anywhere unless she wants to be.
At 92, she has retired as an Aultman Hospital volunteer.
Johnston was the guest of honor at a party Nov. 27. She has given 9,222 hours during the last 50 years as a hospital information desk volunteer. She said she stayed so long because of her passion for people.
"People were always around, moving about," she said. "I enjoyed being around the activity, smiling at them and helping them find their way."
Johnston was Aultman's Volunteer of the Year in 1993 and entered its hall of fame in 2001. In 2003, she was honored at the statewide Outstanding Senior Volunteer awards luncheon.
