Aultman ER & Trauma Ranks in 99th Percentile for Satisfaction

CANTON, Ohio (June 2, 2009) — The Aultman Emergency and Trauma Center was recently ranked in the 99th percentile for overall patient satisfaction and “likelihood to recommend” as a result of Press Ganey surveys during the first quarter of 2009.

The ranking is based on a comparison of 7,000 health care organizations using Press Ganey’s services to measure and improve quality of patient care.

“Improvement in customer service has been a team effort by the ED physicians, staff and registration, along with ancillary support including security, radiology and housekeeping,” said Liz Edmunds, vice president Aultman Emergency and Trauma Center. “A few key initiatives helped us achieve this honor, such as communication of expectations, shared decision making and consistently providing feedback and recognition to staff.”

Each year, Aultman surveys thousands of patients to gauge their satisfaction. Patients rate everything from the timeliness of testing to the quality of care provided by the medical and nursing staff to the cleanliness of Aultman facilities. Surveys are mailed to a random sampling of patients who received inpatient, outpatient, emergency department, immediate care and other services.

Chest pain is the number one diagnosis in the Aultman Emergency Center, which is Stark County’s busiest with more than 85,000 visits a year.

In a medical emergency, quick access to quality medical care is essential. Aultman's Emergency and Trauma Center is designed to allow the fastest access possible to the latest in emergency-care technology.

Board-certified emergency medicine physicians staff the center, which is divided into three main treatment areas: a large trauma area, a critical-care area and an area for patients with minor sickness, injuries and lacerations.

An on-site laboratory assists in processing test results quickly. Aultman's emergency medicine physicians and professional staff are available 24 hours a day. Learn more about the department here.
