Project SEARCH Informational Meeting held at Aultman
Canton, Ohio (Oct. 26, 2009) – Project SEARCH internship positions for young adults with disabilities at Aultman Hospital will begin Jan. 4. All interested individuals and family members are encouraged to attend the Project SEARCH informational meeting on Wed., Nov. 11, from 5:30-7 p.m., in Aultman Hospital’s Morrow House Auditorium. Free parking is available in the Seventh Street deck.
Aultman Hospital is the first employer in Stark County to utilize this internationally recognized program, and it is the first adult internship Project SEARCH program offered in the nation. Many similar programs have been created for high school students. The goal upon program completion is competitive employment utilizing the skills learned on the internships and throughout the program.
The Project SEARCH program is a joint collaboration between Aultman Health Foundation, the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR) and Siffrin, Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides supportive services to people with disabilities. In its first year of operation, the Project SEARCH program has seen many successes. Fifteen young adults have worked in various positions throughout the hospital, learning and enhancing their employment skills, and one intern has accepted a full-time position with a department within Aultman.
