Aultman College Announces New Board Members

March 14, 2011

CANTON, Ohio (March 14, 2011) — Aultman College of Nursing and Health Sciences is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors – Patricia Draves, Ph.D., of the University of Mount Union, and Dr. Jeffrey Susman of the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and Pharmacy (NEOUCOM).

“We are very pleased that these excellent leaders in higher education are now a part of our team,” said Aultman College President Rebecca Crowl. “We believe the College and our students will benefit considerably from their knowledge, experience and expertise.”

Draves is the vice president for academic affairs and dean of the University at Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio. Prior to joining the staff at Mount Union, she was the biochemistry program chair at Monmouth College in Illinois and associate dean of undergraduate studies at the University of Central Arkansas. Draves has extensive experience in integrating technology into teaching and learning, developing student success services and implementing new degree programs.

In fact, during Draves’ tenure at Mount Union, the institution launched its first graduate program in nearly a century – a master’s degree in physician assistant studies – along with several new undergraduate programs.

Draves earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Mount Holyoke College, a doctorate degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois and went on to a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Texas-Austin.

Dr. Susman is the dean of the College of Medicine at NEOUCOM.  Dr. Susman has an extensive background in medicine and was most recently professor of family medicine and director at the University of Cincinnati’s Department of Family Medicine. During his tenure at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Susman substantially expanded the Department of Family Medicine’s research portfolio.  Prior to moving to Ohio, Dr. Susman spent 12 years at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, serving as professor, associate dean for primary care, and associate dean for faculty development.

Dr. Susman received an A.B. from Dartmouth College and went on to earn a doctor of medicine degree from Dartmouth Medical School in 1981.  He has a research interest in primary care mental health and serves as the editor-in-chief of The Journal of Family Practice.
