Support Groups
Support group meetings are offered for children, teens and adults at the Compassionate Care Center located on the Aultman Woodlawn campus at 2821 Woodlawn Avenue in Canton.
Other grief support services offered are:
- Individual counseling information for children, teens and their parents, other family members and/or guardians
- Presentations on grief to clubs, organizations, schools, workplaces on grief and coping skills
- Support group sessions for various types of death losses held at Aultman Woodlawn or at a school or community location
- Resource information on death, grief and loss
Hospice/Palliative Care Bereavement Program

The Hospice/Palliative staff offers follow-up immediately following the death of a loved one through periodic phone calls, cards and home visits, if needed, to families in the program. In addition:
- A memorial service is held twice a year to honor and remember the hospice loved one.
- A holiday seminar is held around Thanksgiving to help people face those difficult weeks ahead.
- Eight-week grief workshops are offered periodically to newly bereaved persons.
Three support group meetings are offered:
- First Tuesdays of every month, 1-2 p.m.: "Coping with the Serious Illness of a Loved One" is for persons who are caregivers of a loved one who has a serious or terminal illness. Held in in the Compassionate Care Center conference room.
- Second Wednesdays of every month, 11:30 a.m.: "Lunch Bunch" is a social networking group that meets for lunch at different restaurants. Facilitated by Beth Wengerd, Hospice Bereavement Coordinator.
- First and third Thursdays of every month, 6-7:30 p.m.: "Evening Support Group" meets twice a month and is open to anyone grieving the loss of a loved one. Facilitated by Judy Smith, PCC, CT. Held in in the Compassionate Care Center conference room.
- Five-week series starting Thursday, April 12, 6-7:30 p.m.: "Adults Grieving the Loss of a Parent" is facilitated by Judy Smith, PCC-S and volunteer M.J. Malone. Held at the Compassionate Care Center.
- Five-week series starting Thursday, April 12, 6-7:30 p.m.: "Young Widows and Widowers" is facilitated by Brenda Brown, MA, FT and volunteer Jennifer Betha. Held at the Compassionate Care Center.

Bereavement Buddies
Hospice has trained, experienced and understanding volunteers who also offer follow-up after the death of a loved one.

PrimeTime Seniors offers a program called "Flying Solo" to assist those adjusting to being at home alone after the death of a spouse, divorce or retirement. The group meets on the second Saturday of the month at the Aultman North building from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Reservations are required.

The Sharon Lane Health Information Center, located off the Aultman Hospital main lobby, offers a variety of books, videotapes and resources on grief. The center is staffed by professional health education specialists who provide personalized assistance and customized research. Hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
