It's no secret that the earlier cancer is detected, the better the outcome. Each year, the Aultman Cancer Center educates the public on the benefits of screening, early detection of cancer, cancer risk reduction and cancer prevention strategies through a wide variety of community outreach events.
In an effort to reach people in our community who might not have access to medical care, the Aultman Cancer Center hosts a free Cancer Screening Day each year. Area residents can take advantage of free lung, colon, prostate, breast, cervical and skin screenings. After each screening, the physicians counsel patients on their personal cancer risk and review the American Cancer Society's guidelines for the early detection of cancer.
Cancer Screening Day brings the community and the Aultman Cancer Center closer by offering the volunteer services of physicians and other health care personnel to local residents. At the April 2011 Cancer Screening Day, 173 patients were screened. Most of the participants received multiple screenings, for a total of 375 screenings throughout the event.
