Neurosurgery Program

Trauma or illness involving the brain, spinal cord or nervous system can be a frightening experience for a patient and loved ones. If surgery becomes the best treatment option, take comfort in knowing you are in the hands of some of the region's most skilled neurosurgeons and neurological specialists. Aultman's Neurosurgery Program has been modeled after programs developed by the most prestigious medical insitutions in the country. The qualifications for surgeons, our advanced diagnostic equipment, our state-of-the-art neurosurgery suites and our comprehensive rehabilitation services make Aultman the preferred hospital for neurosurgical care.

Equipped for Precision and Accuracy

Accurate diagnosis is the first step in determining the need for neurosurgery. Our radiology department features the advanced equipment necessary for diagnosing neurological disorders. In fact, Aultman has been the first to introduce many diagnostic procedures in this area, including intra-cranial doppler studies. If surgery is required, we've armed our neurosurgeons with the latest equipment to handle some of the most complex neurological procedures. Our innovative surgery department includes suites specially designed for neurosurgery.

Dedicated Caregivers for Every Step of Recovery

Whatever the nature of the surgery, Aultman offers comfortable accomodations with a dedicated staff to ease your recovery. The Same-Day Surgery Unit, where most patients stay before surgery, provides a warm and comfortable environment where you and your family can relax prior to surgery. If your surgery does not require an overnight stay, you will return to this unit for your recovery period before you are discharged. Some types of surgery require a stay in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) or Neurosurgical Unit. These units have private rooms with advanced patient-monitoring technology. The nurses in these units have received special training. They are highly skilled in the care of neurosurgery patients and work closely with the neurosurgeons to monitor your recovery.

Rehabilitation
Following your surgery, physical rehabilitation could be necessary. While in the hospital, you may need to undergo physical, occupational or speech therapy depending on your recovery needs. After discharge, you may continue receiving these services in your home, at the hospital or at one of Aultman's satellite facilities. If your doctor determines you require intense rehabilitation or skilled nursing care before returning home, you may transfer to Aultman's Rehabilitative or Transitional Care Unit.
